Morning Coffee in Port Townsend

This oil painting was the result of a photo I took in 2008 from a tall pier overlooking the bay in Port Townsend, Washington. The distinct aroma of freshly brewed coffee was moving across the water. Morning had broken, and this gem of the northwest was awakening for another splendid September day. The only sound was a seagull begging for food from a young couple tossing bits of their poppy seed muffin. I thought to myself, “What a wonderful, peaceful way to start my weekend.” I knew that I’d eventually have to paint this scene, so here it finally is…
