The Question

A local news team visited a memory-care center for a piece about a soldier turning 100 years old. They asked him, "Of all the things you've seen over the years, the experiences you've had, the foreign travels and adventures... Please tell us, what was the biggest highlight of your life?"

The old man turned his gaze toward the window - then went silent as if slipping into a trance. 

A staff member whispered, "I think he needs his rest now."

All through the night he thought and thought about the question. Then, the following evening while sitting alone watching the sun set on the water, he spoke the answer aloud...

"Having loved, having been loved, and that warm, comforting feeling called home."
