In the “dark house spearing” sport in northern Minnesota, the sportsman uses a wooden decoy with a piece of lead to weigh it down – to attract the northern pike. Then the spear slips into the water carefully so as not to scare off the incoming fish. Then the plunge forward, spearing the creature… BUT, not if you’re sleeping like this fella.
